It is the time period that is the late 1500s. It is a time that takes place primarily in England and the surrounding areas. Many people can see what the
citizens of that time wore, or reasonable facsimiles of such, by attending a Renaissance Fair, which are held all across the country primarily in the summer. At such a fair
one can see what all social or economic classes would wear, and also see how men and women differed in their clothing. In the following paper we present a written
illustration of the clothing worn by different classes and genders during this period in history. Upper Class When we envision this time period, and many other time periods for
that matter, we often first think of what the wealthy wear, or wore. We watch films depicting such times and clearly see elaborate costumes that were only worn by the
incredibly wealthy. It should be understood, when discussing the clothing of the very wealthy, that they did not often need to do any physical work, truly only needing to look
good and follow the latest fashion. They clearly had the funds and the power to hire others to make their clothing especially for them, and clearly maintained a position where
they had individuals that would assist them in getting dressed. Now, while many may not think this would make a different in costumes worn, it did most especially for women.
For the wealthy women a bodice was more often than not laced or connected tightly up the back. An average individual, who did not have a maid or assistant to
aid in dressing, could not possibly dress themselves in such clothing. But, for the wealthy woman who had help with dressing, difficult fasteners were not a problem. This is a
