nurse there are many areas of practice that may arise, from clinical concerns trough to human issues such as ethical and moral issues that may impact on the way care
is given or received. The idea of nursing supervision is to provide support for nurse practitioner in a range of issues, developing their own identity as well as skills
and competences (Severinsson, 2001). There are many different models, however each can usually be seen to contain three concepts; confirmation, meaning and self-awareness. Whatever models is used these developments are
the aspect that adds value to the nurse practitioner for both themselves and their patients (Severinsson, 2001). In research it has been found that the role of the supervisors is
the key to developing these three concepts within the nurses practice area (Severinsson, 2001, Butterworth and Faugier, 1992). It should also be noted that the responsibility of developing the relationship
to meet the supervisees needs should be the supervisors task, assisted by the supervisee (Severinsson, 2001, Roach, 1992). The National Health Service (NHS), UKCC does not undertake to prefer any
particular model of supervision, as such there are choices such as group, peer group and one to one (NHS Executive, 1995). Each can facilitate a different type of learning and
examination, peer groups may allow an exploration with fewer confines groups with a facilitator may be guided and one to one may be more intensive but also less varied with
fewer inputs (Dryden and Thorn, 1991). It is also worth noting what clinical supervision is NOT meant to be, it is not a system of formal performance reviews, nor is
