Essay / Research Paper Abstract

A 5 page paper giving an account of the activities resulting in completion of the aggregate survey tool and assessment. The effort began on July 18, 2002, ending on August 1. The purpose of these activities was to identify and assess an aggregate of individuals over the age of 65 who also have heart disease, investing at least sixteen clinical hours in the effort. The paper discusses the activities, then compares aggregate-based assessment to working with individuals and their families. It concludes that the aggregate approach avoids the complexity of individuals as larger "systems," allowing the nurse to focus first on one small component and then apply the findings to the "system" of the individual. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

The purpose of these meetings was to discover more about the centers operations and the community that it serves, and to discuss the specific aggregate I would be assessing. During the first meeting with Ms. Bross, we discussed the center and its mission, and the people it serves in the local area. Ms. Bross provided me with assessment tools and screening forms, later adding informational pamphlets discussing heart disease in the aging. My first meeting with Ms. Bross largely was informational. During my second visit on July 22, I was able to tour the agencys facilities and establish a schedule for meeting with individuals comprising the aggregate of interest. As stated, that aggregate consisted of individuals over the age of 65 who have heart disease. Ms. Bross and I scheduled the first half of the required assessment time for July 30. ...
