of the cysto suite staff. One of the problems with the functions and operations of the cysto suite is that staff is required to remove all equipment that
must be cleaned from the room where the procedure was performed and taken to a "cleaning room," where they are then cleaned prior to being sterilized in yet another room.
The need to remove equipment from the cysto suite to a cleaning room is an ineffective step, which can result in the loss of equipment and is a poor
use of staff time. It can be argued, then, that the use of a "dirty sink," a sink in which used equipment can be stored after the procedure and
cleaned in the room before being removed to be sterilized, would be a more efficient method of addressing the cleaning issues in the cysto suite (E-medicine Consumer Health, 2003).
This assertion, then, can be supported by some of the assessments in the current literature and views of the best methods for improving
workplace performance, motivation and overall productivity. Research suggests that workplace motivation and overall productivity decreases when individuals believe that they do not have choices, when their own autonomy or
personal perspective on their job is not valued (Thiedke, 2004). In other words, if staff members think that some of the steps in their job are without
