great deal of controversy lately as many bloggers are presenting the public with news and information that may, or may not, be legitimate. There is also the issue of having ones work in the public for all to read and others who are seeking a way to make money through their weblog, something that is not a powerful possibility as of yet. The following paper examines Clay Shirkys essay "Weblogs and the Mass Amateurization of Publishing" and other articles in order to present a better understanding of weblogs and publications. Weblogs Shirkys essay argues that weblogs offer people the ability to essentially publish, on the web, anything they want. It ultimately takes away the power of publishing companies who have always been in control of who makes money and who can be read. The people, according to Shirky, have had to rely on publishing companies to present them with material that can prove informative or entertaining. With the weblogs, and bloggers, people have the opportunity to read anything they want for free. And, it allows bloggers to write anything they want, without the approval of a publishing company. This, according to Shirky, is what many people want: "We want a world where global publishing is effortless. We want a world where you dont have to ask for help or permission to write out loud" (Shirky, 2002). Of course, being paid money is another issue. Shirky illustrates how many people may ask for donations, or hope they find a career in writing, though most people who make money off blogging are those who write books on the subject, thus seeking publishers.
