in their pictures. One parent, for example, asked that her daughters hair be combed before pictures were taken, while another mother asked that her daughter take her sweater off
before the pictures are taken. One girl appeared to be crying after her mother left, but she only cried when staff members talked about taking the photos. When
the teachers mentioned taking the photos, the girl cried more. Even when the teacher read a story about taking pictures, the girl cried when this was mentioned. After snack,
the children all went with staff to the gym to have their photos taken. This girl sat in the teachers lap and watched the other children prepare, while repeatedly
stating that she did not want to have her picture taken. Staff spoke with the girl, told her that if she did not want her photo taken, she could
opt not to, and that she could change her mind, and have her picture taken last if she wanted. The girl continued to cry while the other children had
their pictures taken, and never changed her mind. After returning to the classroom, the class posed for a group picture, and while she had cried at any mention of
pictures earlier, this time she had her picture taken with the class. Reflection The girl caught my attention because of the breadth of her sadness
and the tears she shed over not wanting to have her picture taken. Initially, I thought she was having separation problems from her mother, but later it became evident
that she feared having her picture taken or this was a trigger for some negative memories. Each time she cried, I felt compelled to comfort her and to help
