, September 2010 properly! Philosophy My philosophy is long but it can be summarized thusly.
I believe that all students can learn and that all students deserve nurturance and help to reach their potential. The classroom needs to be a safe haven for students, an
environment that promotes a sense of safety, acceptance and excitement. Students will learn to be responsible for their own behaviors. Acceptance, not tolerance, of differences will be fostered and
reinforced. My classroom will be cooperative and collaborative with students and teacher helping each other. The classroom also has rules to promote good citizenship and to maximize the time we
have together. Rules and consequences All effective communities have rules. My classroom will have a code of conduct that will reflect what behaviors are expected rather than what they
should not do. In other words, rules are phrased in the positive. Examples: Respect others; Raise hand when you want to speak; Stay on task. Consequences will be related to
the misconduct. Disrespectful behavior, for instance, will require an apology from the offender to the victim. Other consequences include: verbal warning, note in teachers planning book, a call to students
home. These are not punitive in nature. Rewards will include verbal praise, verbal recognition, note or phone call home. Rules and so forth depend on the grade level.
