school year progresses to set up their classroom management program. The issues have to do with clear rules and clear consequences, both of which must be feasible. What they dont
say is that the best approach is to have very few rules and rules in which students were involved in setting. Among other models, this type of participation in found
in Glassers choice theory, which teaches students they are the only ones responsible for their own behaviors (St. Olivers Community College. 2004). Students must be involved and they must have
choices. Reynolds (2003) points out that if students are not given any choices, they will feel powerless and this will lead to frustration and inappropriate behaviors both in terms of
social behaviors and learning behaviors. The purpose of the Van Der Sijde and Tomics (1993) paper is to introduce the audience to the "teaching script, in which both instruction and
classroom management are incorporated" (p. 439). Before the authors discuss this idea, they lead the reader through a discussion on the premise that "Teaching is Parallel Processing," by which they
