"The Classical Period in ancient Greece is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished and brilliant eras of artistic achievement in the West."1 While it really only lasted a
short period of time, historically speaking, it is a period that was classic, for the culture, and a period of art that perhaps heralded and froze a moment in time.
The following paper provides a brief overview and summary of Classical Greek Art. Classical Greek Art As one author notes Classical
Greek Art "represents, in many respects, a Golden Age of splendour, but also stands as a harbinger of decadence."2 In this one can see that it was a time that
stood as perhaps the beginning of all we know about Greece and their power and their art. It illustrated their ways of life, their social ideals, and offers a look
into the people of ancient Greece. From architecture to vessels, Classical Greek Art was comprised of things like the Parthenon, which is
"is a majestic and influential work of architecture" as well as the sculptures and reliefs within the Parthenon which offers powerful images.3 All of the art, and architecture which possessed
a great deal of art, was incredibly reflective of what was considered the good life. There was a change in the society at that time that evolved from years following
the Persian and Peloponnesian wars.4 And, emerging from that war torn era the culture became "less devoted to heroic struggles" or the "cultivation of the gods and heroes."5 As such
