point is subdued, supporting the impression of tranquility. As the birds descend, dolphins are seen, chattering to each other. The sea and the dolphins are gray, also. Suddenly a ship
in full sail appears out of the gray mist and the music swells appropriately, as the sailors working the rigging sing a sea chanty that mentions "mermaids" in the "mysterious
fathoms below." The virtual "camera" now features a shot of the young prince Eric leaning over the ships front railing. He is excited and pleased to be at sea.
His great shaggy dog is next to him, paws on the railing, with his very pink tongue hanging out. The shot switches to his guardian, who is leaning over the
railing, literally green with seasickness. A stocky sailor is pulling in a line and comments that King Triton, the lord of the sea, must be a good mood as the
day is very hospitable for sea travel. This sparks a conversation between sailors that lays out the necessary plot background. A grizzled one-eyed sailor insists that mer-people are real, shaking
a caught fish by the tail to emphasize his point. The perspective zooms in on the startled guardian backing away from the fish, as the sailor shakes it in the
mans face. The fish slips from his fingers and manages to make it over the side. The perspective follows the fish. The fish turns, and does a human-like gesture
of wiping his fin cross his brow, indicating his immense relief at escaping. The perspective follows the fish as he swims deeper and deeper into the depths. The music reflects
the feeling that the fish is taking the viewer into a mysterious environment, one unknown to surface dwellers. Its at this point that the credits begin and are shown over
