Boynes book "Clash of the Titans" is a work that addresses various aspects of the battles that took place on the sea. The following paper reviews Boynes work. Clash of the Titans Boynes work is not one that addresses all aspects of warfare at sea in WWII but focuses on the surface warfare. His examination is not involved overtly with submarine warfare, but rather with the many different nations and their involvement with ocean surface warfare during WWII. In essence his work is intended to illustrate the significant role of ocean warfare in this war, warfare perspectives that truly assisted in the winning of the Second World War. Boyne sets the stage in Chapter 1 of his book, stating, "World War II at sea opened with a sudden fury in September 1939 as German surface ships and submarines began a systematic attack that almost brought Great Britain to her knees" (Boyne, 1997; 16). In the North Atlantic Ocean forces were attempting to get supplies and aid to the British. Then, in the Mediterranean there were numerous battles taking place, and still yet, in the Pacific Ocean there was the beginning of Japanese involvement, involvement that would soon bring in the navy of the United States. In this simple, yet illustrative, beginning, we see how almost the entire world was involved, or would be involved, in battle on all the seas conducive to battle.
