the life of newspaper magnate Chares Foster Kane, played by Welles and loosely based on the life of real-life newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst. The narrative of Citizen Kane can
be interpreted as a "potent metaphor for the betrayal of principles," as well as a intelligent and nuanced examination of the "corrupting nature of power" (Wood). The following examination
of Citizen Kane concentrates on the elements of cinema are utilized in the film, first look at specific scenes that epitomize these film elements and then discussing the film components
involved Character structure While many of the characters are developed as fully-fledged, living breathing people whom the audience comes to know, Kane is, of course the most fully developed. For
example, early on in the film, when Kane is describing his goals for the newspaper he owns, "The Inquirer, to his business partner, Leland points out, "thats the second sentence
youve started with I," which foreshadows Kanes progressive metamorphosis from "journalist to megalomaniac" (Lehmann 45). A scene that is highly relevant to understanding Kanes character is told in a prolonged
