(Cisco, 2009). The company grows rapidly after this; by 1989 there is a turnover of $27 million, with only 111 employees and in 1990 the company makes its initial public
offering with a market capitalization of $224 million. Today the company has offices around the globe, more than 65,000 employees at a turnover in excess of $36 billion and has
vision of "changing the way we work, live, play and learn" (Cisco, 2009). 2. Impact of Globalization It may be argued that globalization has an enormous impact on Cisco,
facilitating the way in which the firm has grown and demand for the products has emerged. Therefore, it may also be argued that Cisco themselves are part of globalization, helping
drive forwards the technology that has supported some of the processes of globalization. The rapid growth is being supported by a strategy
of build, buy and partner, with the firm making a number of acquisitions in order to capitalize on new technological developments fit in with their business model. The company has
a core competency of acquisition, in 2009 there have been four acquisitions; Richards Zeta Building Intelligence Inc., Pure Digital Technologies Inc., Tidal Software Inc. and Tandberg, and five acquisitions took
