faces in the years to come. Each year will be assessed separately looking at issues such ass profitability, liquidity and efficiency. All figures with the exception of any per share
figures will be in US $millions unless otherwise stated. 2002 Looking at 2002 with revenues of $18,915 there was growth on 2001.
However, it is not just the revenue that is important, it is how much of this that is a profit. There are three ways of measuring profit, the operating profit;
this is the revenue less only the direct cost of goods. This is 63.5% in 2002. The next id the operating profit, this is the profit after all indirect costs,
such as overheads including sales and administration have been deducted. This was 15.5% for 2002. The last is the net profit margin. This net profit is a common ratio which
is used by many stakeholders and is a primary efficiency ratio. This measure of net profit and is expressed as a percentage of the profit compared to the turnover. The
basic calculation is the net profit the total revenue after all costs have been deducted, usually before interest and tax. For Cisco in 2002 this was 14.3%.
To look at efficiency we can consider the return on asserts and the return on equity. This is a ratio that shows the level of
