Essay / Research Paper Abstract
This 9 page paper looks at Circadian Rhythms and the Circadian Clock. Written in three parts the first part examined what they are how they work and how they differ from homeostatic regulations. The second part looks at how these rhythms impact on the airline industry. The third part looks at the effects of Circadian Desynchronization. The bibliography cites 10 sources.

the day, such as being tired at night and awake during the day. Even the body temperature can be seen as following a circadian rhythm depending on the time of
day (Underwood, 2004). The origin of the word comes form Latin circa diem meaning about the day which indicates that this is
a study concerning the body clock in animals and humans (Moore-Ede et al, 1982). This is a self sustaining clock that measures biological rhythms and will usually have a cycle
of twenty four hours when in the organisms own natural environment using zeitgebers as cues for the time keeping, one of the strongest is the presence of light (Moore-Ede et
al, 1982). This rhythm will be found in many plants as well as animal life, but it is not the only internal biological clock in nature (Moore-Ede et al, 1982).
An example of this in a human will be the way that in a single twenty four hour period there is usually a single cycle constructed of sleeping and
waking (Dijk et al, 1995). This is a sleep-wake cycle that also follows a twenty four hour clock and in a natural
environment is will find synchronicity with the cycles of day and night which bring light and dark as well as other natural cycles in the environment (Dijk et al, 1995).
When circadian rhythms are recorded they will be plotted on a chart called an actogram. Where there is a change the cycle will be effected, such as the introduction of
a bright light. This also accounts for the fact that the rhythm needs to be synchronised with local time (Dijk et al, 1995). It is interesting to note that is
