that mold his destiny than the endearing Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks). He is a simpleminded Southern man who shares the story of his life with any passerby who chooses
to listen. Forrests IQ may only be 75, but his insights into his life and the times that influence it could compete equally with someone who has the intellect
of Albert Einstein. The films unique storytelling style is an intermingling of flashbacks and real time, and is an entertaining mix of humor, understated pathos, satire and irony.
The camera serves as a microscope as it zeroes in on Forrests life from his happy childhood in Greenbow, Alabama, where wearing leg braces didnt impede Forrests desire to run
like the wind. His protective and loving mother (Sally Field) inspires him with clich?s, and refuses to acknowledge that her son might be in any way different because he
is somewhat developmentally challenged. Instead, she constantly reminds Forrest he is just like everybody else, and because he is, anything is possible, including the attainment of the American Dream.
His childhood is in sharp contrast to that of his lifelong friend, Jenny Curran (Robin Wright). She is sexually abused by an alcoholic father and often falls victim
to the seamier side of American life, like drugs and promiscuity. But Forrest is her emotional anchor, and theirs is a relationship forged in friendship that grows into a
