1-12. 1. Summary Section This article by Larson, Story, Perry, Neumark-Strainer & Hannan (2007) takes a look at adolescent lifestyle factors and behavior. It
is essentially a study by researchers who interviewed a number of adolescents in respect to their personal behavior. Hence, the results relied on self-reports by subjects in respect to their
own personal behaviors and habits. The focus was primary on the habits of cigarette smoking and diet, in addition to physical activity. Results demonstrate that smoking frequently is inversely
related to participation in sports teams. Authors conclude that adolescents who smoke are less inclined to participate in healthy lifestyle behaviors and so, interventions are necessary in order to prevent
smoking as well as other unhealthy practices. Authors explain that while similar inquiries have been conducted in respect to relating smoking with other habits, they point out that there is
very little research looking at smoking and the intake of important nutrients such as vitamin C and iron. Several tables are included at the conclusion of the piece to display
the findings. Authors also examine the problem by using various demographic categories. They look at income, gender, weight, race and ethnicity and these things also play a role in the
analysis. While a variety of things are examined, and statistics complied, there is seemingly only one finding of significance. The primary conclusion reached by authors is in fact that most
members of team sports do not smoke, while those who do not participate in team sports in Middle or High School are more likely to smoke. 2.
