perspective of doing what is good, regardless of how it affects the individual. Doing what is morally right is not always advantageous but most people would perhaps like to believe
that morality is important, no matter the cost. The following paper examines chapter 4 of "Selected Works of Cicero" titled "A Practical Code of Behavior" as it involves the ideals
of morals. Cicero and Morals In Ciceros examination of morality he presents many different types of examples, in what essentially appears to be a letter sent to his
son in the hopes that he can further teach his son about what it means to be a man, a good and moral man. One thing he first presents, is
a brief statement concerning how we are morally obliged to have morals. Moral Obligation- Cicero states that "Every part of philosophy is
fruitful and rewarding, none barren or desolate. But the most luxuriantly fertile field of all is that of our moral obligations-since, if we clearly understand these, we have mastered the
rules for leading a good and consistent life" (Cicero 160). In this statement he is clearly arguing that we, as human beings, and members of a society and community and
culture, have a duty to the entity we belong to. We have a duty to engage in moral discussions of philosophy so that we can live a life that is
good. Most people wish to be good, or to feel good about what they do and how they treat people. This may of course merely be an assumption and it
may well be that most people do not really care abut other people, but for the most part we can believe that people want to be good. This statement addresses
