culture in the nation. One of the tribes of Native Americans that experienced near destruction is the Chumash people of California. The following paper examines, creatively, and in a tutorial
manner, being a native Chumash individual in the middle of the 19th century. Chumash As noted, this paper will be creative but also will possess elements of the
tutorial in order to assist the student with their own unique presentation of the subject. First and foremost the individual could note that as a Chumash Indian "my people believe
that they have been here as far back as anyone could remember." There are many sources which indicate the Chumash believe they were in what is now California long before
other cultures crossed the Bering land bridge. There are also those who argue that architectural evidence may well support this theory. The following portion speaks from the first person perspective.
They lived, for the most part, around Santa Barbara, California but were also known to exist up the coast and also on the Channel Islands (Santa Ynez Band of Chumash
