look deeper into themselves in order to understand a piece. The following paper examines and analyzes the historical significance of the artists Christo and Jean-Claude, and then Robert Smithson.
Christo and Jean-Claude The work of Christo and his wife Jean-Claude is well known all around the world as they have gradually come into a powerful position of notoriety
(Chernow; Volz, 2002). Their work is traditionally very transitory and thus it only resides in history through the media, through pictures, films, and other journalistic work that discusses their artwork.
They generally construct an art piece and then dismantle it, recycling the materials. They also do not charge for their work, funding all of their art pieces. Their most
recent project is The Gates in Central Park, New York. It was a piece, or collections of pieces, that only stood for 16 days, making it clearly not a historical
piece in terms of standing for long from a time perspective. That is, however, one of the reasons why it is a historic work or will be considered a historic
work. When people have only a short time to see a piece of art they are drawn to it and will remember it, especially when that piece of art
will not move to another exhibit, but will be dismantled never to be constructed again. This is a very powerful presentation in the art world, in terms of its transient
