it is interesting to reflect upon these specifically American Christmas perspectives. Christmas in America Christmas in America is celebrated by
the majority of the population (Christmas, 2002). Christmas comes with all the usual trimmings, from trees to ornaments to big family dinners. However, there are indeed many customs
and traditions concerning Christmas which have evolved right here in America. It is interesting to note that President Theodore Roosevelt
banned Christmas trees from the White House because of his belief that cutting them was harmful to the environment (American Christmas Traditions, Facts and History, 2002). There is a
legend however about the Roosevelt children keeping a tree in secret (American Christmas Traditions, Facts and History, 2002). Since 1923,
the National Christmas Tree on the White House lawn has been lit every year with only one exception (American Christmas Traditions, Facts and History, 2002). The exception was 1979,
when the U.S. hostages were being held in Iran, and that year only the top ornament was lit (American Christmas Traditions, Facts and History, 2002). There was once a
delay in lighting the tree and this came in 1963 (American Christmas Traditions, Facts and History, 2002). The tree wasnt lit until December 22, which was after the 30-day
mourning period for President Kennedy who was brutally killed (American Christmas Traditions, Facts and History, 2002).
