They are the two most popular faiths in the world, and in all honesty, rely a great deal on the same history as seen in their texts, both relying heavily on the history of people such as Abraham. The following paper compares and contrasts the rise of the religions and examines the importance of the Crusades. Christianity and Islam As mentioned, both religions have some of the same foundations. They may well even be argued as having the same God, as they are both monotheistic. They are both Abrahamic religions as well, for they both found much of their history as "they trace their history to the covenant God made with Abraham in the Hebrew Bible" (Religion Facts, 2006). In relationship to the origins of the religions Islam was founded by the Prophet Muhammad around the year 622 CE. It is noted that "The Prophet Muhammad met both Jews and Christians during his lifetime, and Islam has come into frequent contact with both of its fellow monotheistic faiths throughout most of its history" (Religion Facts, 2006). The Christian religion was founded through the life and death of Jesus Christ and originated around 33 CE (Religion Facts, 2006). In all honesty it is impossible to really illustrate the origins of the two as they involve many historical and religious ideals. For example, in relationship to Christianity there is some controversy over whether Jesus was anything close to what he became and that much of the religion was founded on changing political and social realities.
