Dear fellow traveler, Welcome to the great City of Cairo, and it will be a pleasure to tell you something about our great religion, Islam. Although we
have a great deal of similarities with your wonderful religion, Christianity, there are also certainly important differences, and in this letter I will specify some of the similarities and differences.
Just as your religion was founded in the dessert in and around the city of Jerusalem by your prophet, Jesus, our religion was also founded in the dessert in the
city of Mecca by our prophet, Mohammed. Both of our prophets were of humble origins; yours became a carpenter, ours a camel driver. Both prophets believed in the same principal
of one God (yours having various names, such as Yahvah, Eloheim, or Adanoi), and we use the Arabic name, Allah, since Arabic was the language that our prophet Mohammed spoke
(p. 228). In addition, both of our prophets believe that God spoke to them and the writings of God are written in the holy books. Yours are both
the Hebrew Bible and New Testament, and ours is the Holy Koran (the word Koran actually means "recital", as we believe that these were the words that Allah spoke directly
to Mohammed. Just as your New Testament contains many sayings and passages from the Hebrew Scriptures, our Koran contains many of the sayings from both the Hebrew Scriptures and
