is a dog eat dog world, one has to wonder if in fact an honest business man or woman can be successful in todays world. One sees the likes of Martha Stewart almost behind bars and many other executives have gotten caught doing things that are less than honest. Some do jail time. Some just get a slap on the wrist. However, the point is not to do business without getting caught. Ethics matter. How can somebody in this day and age make decisions using Christian principles? There are some business owners who advertise the fact that their enterprise is a Christian business. They advertise in certain newsletters and post that fish sign to denote that indeed, the individual who owns this business is a Christian. One may equate that with honesty and the intent is to promote that idea. Yet, it is one thing to advertise a business in that way and it is another thing to run it that way. Christians are tempted by the very same things that all individuals are. There are shortcuts one can take to make more money while shorting the customer or ones own employees, but is it ethical? The answer is that such short cuts are not. In order to create a business enterprise based on Christian morals, one may want to follow the six basic business minimums as contained in Burketts book entitled Business by the Book: The Complete Guide of Biblical Principles for The Workplace. The six basic business minimums include an admonition to reflect Christ in business practices, accountability, and providing a quality product at a fair price (Burkett, 1998).
