a situation of this type, a self-administered questionnaire would be the most appropriate form of research instrument to use. There are several reasons for this. First of all, the population
that will take part in the questionnaire is known in advance: the residents of the new subdivision. This means that a more generalized telephone survey wouldnt be as useful. It
is possible that a personal interview could suffice, but in reality, this is unnecessary; the information one requires from the residents is a mix of open-response questions about their reasons
for moving, and what they think about the amenities at the new subdivision, as well as fixed-response questions using a Likert scale (i.e. - something like "On a scale of
1 to 5, how much do you enjoy and utilize the open clubhouse at this subdivision?"). For this reason, there is no need to engage in the logistical challenge of
carrying out, recording, and coding the responses to open interviews, because the questionnaire form will give one all the information one needs. Ideally, the fixed-response questions would be used for
the segment to find out what they liked and didnt like about life in the subdivision, and short open responses would be used for the segment on why they selected
that area, since this involves responses that could not be anticipated. 2. A poll of students at Metro University on their preferences among three candidates who are running for
president of the student government. The self administered questionnaire would be ideal for this situation as well, for similar reasons. First, as always, one has to consider the
