other times they are bad choices. And, then there are many choices made every day that mean absolutely nothing at all. For example, making a choice between drinking water or
ice water will likely mean nothing at all. The following paper examines choice and then applies it to the play Macbeth by Shakespeare. Choice in Macbeth In all
honesty choice is very directly and intricately linked with what humans call free will. Free will means that ones future is not destined, that the present and the future are
not somehow preordained but that people can choose and thus they can demonstrate free will, moving their lives in various directions based on the choices they make. For example, one
can make the choice between going to college and getting a degree in financing or one can choose to go off to South America and volunteer with a medical facility
for impoverished people. One can clearly see that each of those choices would result in a very different life, and also a very different person in the end. One
author notes that with this ability to choose, with free will, comes clear responsibility for the consequences of choices. "To exercise free will, and survive, one needs to be responsible
of the consequences of ones choices" (What is Choice?). This is a very important aspect of choice for if someone chooses poorly, choosing something that harms another or has other
ramifications, they need to take responsibility for that choice. These perspectives clearly apply to the character of Macbeth who was a man who had many opportunities to make a
good choice, and ultimately chose bad choices because, perhaps, he was pressured by his wife. He may well have also used his wife as a subconscious excuse to follow her
