hero, Ivanhoe is model of all that is chivalrous, but each of the major characters in the novel have something to add about the nature of chivalry. Richard the First,
in his disguise as the Black Knight, praises Locksley/Robin Hood, as he says that a man who "does good, having the unlimited power to do evil, deserves praise not only
