original intent has been modified over time to carry a similar yet altered meaning. The definition of medieval chivalry was connected to the tests necessary for entering knighthood whereby
it was one of the stages to pass before one was dubbed a knight. The transition from this seemingly unassociated meaning to the gracious and good-mannered connotation of today
is really not such a stretch when one considers how being a knight required the utmost in gallantry, gentility and courtesy; while knights were indeed warriors, they were also expected
to uphold the tenets of a civilized human being. Knighthood is an institution much older than we suspect. It was prevalent in Northern Europe long before Feudal Times
