Von Huben 8/2010 Please Introduction China is rapidly becoming one of the most powerful economies on earth. Its now part of the "BRIC nations" (Brazil, Russia, India, China) that are considered by many economists to be the most important up-and-coming countries in terms of economic growth. This paper considers what the regimes are like in China and the United States, and where a person might choose to do business, and why. Discussion The immediate and obvious answer to the question is that China is a Communist country, one of the few left, and the U.S. is a democracy. But the fact that China is Communist doesnt automatically exclude it as a business partner. In fact, because its citizens have only recently become consumers, China is one of the biggest and least explored markets in the world. The State Department provides a great deal of information on the Chinese political system as well as a history of the country. The Peoples Republic of China was founded by Mao Zedong on October 1, 1949, when he and his government "assumed control of a people exhausted by two generations of war and social conflict" (Background note: China, 2010). The economy was suffering from a high inflation rate and transportation was disrupted and Mao installed a new economic and political structured modeled on the Soviet system (Background note: China, 2010).
