of rising importance and possible ultimate dominance, it is projected that China will become the largest single economy by 2026, rising from its current position of the thirds largest economy
(BBC News, 2006). This transformation is more than coincidence; it is the result of a direct strategy by the Chinese government to integrate itself more within global economy. This is
evidenced not only by increasing levels of trade; in 1999 global exports amounted to $194.9 billion, to $1,428.51 billion by 2008 (The US China Business Council, 2009), but also by
more political measures such as seeking and achieving membership of the world trade organization and a number of regional trade agreements aimed an increasing bilateral trade (Snyder, 2009).
In order to undertake this, and attract foreign direct investment that was needed in order to help the economy develop and integrate, as well as benefit from exports, a number
of changes have had to occur to make the trading environment sufficiently attractive to other nations to make investments in trade, either directly or through ongoing trading contracts. It may
be argued that is pursuing this China has moved towards a more capitalist economic model, with the adoption of what is referred to as market socialism. 1.1 Aims and Objectives
