concerns. Human rights abuses continue. There are things that people cannot forget. China could be anther Russia or another Germany going back about a century or a half century respectively.
There could be trouble ahead, but the U.S. does recognize China and rather than go after it directly goes after its neighbors. There are fears about nuclear testing, particularly with
North Korea, but certainly China is not an innocent, peaceful country. In fact, it could be a significant threat in the future. And while this may be known to the
people in the administration, it is not a problem that is widely discussed. OConnell writes about the fact that China is expanding rapidly,
and its military is growing stronger. According to the author, this is something that has created concerns amongst some Americans (OConnell). In fact, the Pentagon released a statement that suggests
China could be the largest threat to the U.S. militarily (OConnell). Murray sees China as an emerging super power and not in respect to Asia alone. That is not to
say that China has no competition, but as a communist country for which there are few competitors, and as an Asian nation, it does supersede the competition in many respects.
For example, its GDP supersedes that of India by quite a bit (Karmali 49). China is a huge country with a great many resources. Additionally, many factors as it relates
to China are quite extraordinary. Its current dabbling in capitalist systems has been implicit in Chinas present positive status. Of course, most people alive today do not remember China as
