children seem to be very sedentary and fast food has become the norm. As a result of these two facts, and many more that will be discussed, more and more
children are endangering their health through becoming obese. The following paper examines the causes, effects, and solutions involved with childhood obesity. Childhood Obesity in America
"Obesity has increased in recent decades ...While typically treated as a public health issue, obesity is also an economic phenomenon that is avoidable through behavioral changes."
(Rosman). From this particular statement it is quite obvious that childhood obesity, and obesity in general, is more than a simple issue concerning people who eat too much and gain
substantial amounts of weight. It is an issue that involves social concerns, economic concerns, health concerns, and numerous other concerns in American society.
When examining the causes of childhood obesity many will likely argue that the past few generations of children have been raised with television, video games, and other indoor and
sedentary activities. This, coupled with more fast food, more snack foods, and foods that offer less nutrition are considered elements that truly lead to an obese society and a society
wherein children become obese. Interestingly enough, two authors argues that the caloric intake of children and adults is not really the only
issue, and the real problem in relationship to obesity is technology. Rosman, in summarizing the work of the authors, states the following in this regard: "Technological change has lowered the
