Both parents also converse in English on occasion in front of Alexander. The following observation and parental interview was conducted at the residence of Alexanders grandmother, who lives directly above his home. It should also be noted that the 23 months old grandson of the student researcher was also present. Child Observation As Alexander entered the room, he immediately spied his grandmother and giggled. His gaze went towards me, and, as he had seen on several previous occasions, he began moving towards me, while stopping several times to check and see if his mother approved. As his mother signaled that this was alright, he continued towards me and pulled up on my legs, indicating that I should pick him up. He seemed happy, but soon wanted down because he had stopped my grandson playing in the corner with his toys. I put him down and he joined my grandson and they played side-by-side for a brief period, which was interrupted by the return of Alexanders father. He then ran to his father, demanding that his father pick him up, which he did and Alexander smiles happily in his fathers arms, looking around to see who is watching and obviously very excited. After his father returns him to the floor, Alexander returns to where the other child is playing, sits next to him and resumes play. At this point, my grandson became playful and started rubbing a balloon against Alexanders neck.
