Every day, there are children are removed from their family settings for a variety of reasons - poverty, domestic violence, and parental substance abuse to name a few. This
is one of the most delicate social problems currently facing social services and the U.S. juvenile court systems. Each of these family stories is filled with hope and despair
along with unique sets of circumstances that requires a complete understanding of the particular situation and compassion at bringing the problem toward the desired resolution of family reunification. The
child must always remain the focal point of these considerations, and while reuniting with the biological family is always preferred, the childs safety and well-being might be better served in
another loving family environment. Court-appointed special advocates, caseworkers, and the American court system must increase and apply ethical considerations in cases of family reunification to foster sensitive, emotional, and
moral wellness in cases that involve childrens lives. More empathy must be incorporated in order to ethically serve families during this stressful process of reunification. When children are
removed from their parental homes, standards of moral judgment must be incorporated to promote a child-centered or client-centered approach. Since children truly comprise the future of this country, a
more empathetic approach when dealing with these families must be implemented. Social work has always been focused upon values, as defined by the National Association of Social Workers Code of
Ethics: "The mission of the social work profession is rooted in a set of core values. These core values, embraced by social workers throughout the professions history, are
