Essay / Research Paper Abstract
7 pages in length. Richard J. Daley held Chicago's mayoral position from 1955 to 1976 and remains one of the windy city's most famous elected officials to date. While this distinction has earned him a place within the annals of Chicago's history, the manner by which Daley approached his mayoral tasks has long been considered less than equitable to all racial and ethnic groups. The difference of fifty years is clearly illustrated by the way that blacks accommodated to Chicago politics during the 1950s, whereas Chicago politics had to ultimately accommodate to blacks during the 1970s. Clearly, the social aspect represented the greater significance in Chicago's development under Daley's reign. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
