firm ever portrayed on film" (Denvir, 1998; Verdict.htm). In the following paper we examine the unethical and immoral behavior of this particular lawyer and his firm. Moral and Ethical
Cheating The basis for the story presented in "The Verdict" is that which involves a woman who was accidentally given the wrong anesthesia while she was in labor. The woman
is now comatose. Her relatives are trying to sue the doctor for his negligence. Paul Newmans character is a down on his luck alcoholic lawyer, who normally partakes in ambulance
chasing. With this case he is given, so it seems, another chance to behave morally and ethically. And, in his refusal to accept a small settlement, choosing instead to take
the case to court, he provides us with the morals and the ethics from which we can perceive the error of the ways inherently possessed by Concannon. In a
very subtle, and very real, portrayal of the lack of ethics and morals in the legal industry, we note that character of Concannon first addressing his young associates. As Denvir
(1998) states, "We first see Concannon as he addresses his team of more than a dozen young associates about the upcoming trial. The setting is a large conference room- which
seems to be a cross between a library in an old mansion, complete with ornate fire place and African-American retainer in a white jacket serving coffee, and a law school
