as the Wife of Bath. In her prologue and her tale we learn of a womans perspective in medieval times, or one womans perspective. The following paper examines what the
Wife of Bath claims women want and then discusses if modern women may feel the same way. Lastly the paper examines what may be the answer to the male and
female struggle as seen by the story presented by the Wife of Bath. The Wife of Bath When we read the tale presented by the Wife of Bath we
see that the entire story revolves around one mans journey to find what it is that a woman wants. He has been found guilty of rape and is required by
the rulers to find out what a woman truly wants. He encounters a witch who tells him that she will give him the answer if he marries her. He agrees
and she tells him that a woman wants to be in charge. Then he must marry her and she gives him the choice of whether he wants her to be
beautiful and unfaithful or ugly and faithful. He inadvertently gives her the choice, thus proving that women like to be the boss. The witch decides to be beautiful and faithful.
In this simple summary we see that the Wife of Bath is saying that while women want love and they want beauty and they obviously want men, they also want
to be right. They want to be in control, even if their control is not obvious. They want to be able to lay down the rules, in their lives, where
men are concerned. For the Wife of Bath, in her personal experiences, this also means that she must get what she desires in all manners, especially sexually speaking. In
