that many believe address feminist issues in one way or another. The Wife of Bath offers many people a look at feminist concerns, both from her perspective and from the
perspective of Chaucer and his society. It is a story that can be seen in many different ways and explicated from many different perspectives. Bearing this in mind we present
the following paper which first offers a summary of the tale of the Wife of Bath and then examines what perspectives one may find in her story as it relates
to feminist discourse from a historical and modern perspective. Wife of Bath: The Story The story of the wife of Bath is one which presents us with a
knight who has raped a woman. He is then punished and told that he has one year in which to find the answer as to what women want in a
marriage. He journeys and not until the end of the year does he come across an old and ugly woman who says that she will give him the answer if
he marries her. He agrees and she tells him that women want the power. He returns to the king and queen and his life is spared by his answer. He
is then required to marry the old woman. He is very disheartened at this reality for she is old and ugly. She gives him the choice to have her old
ugly and faithful or beautiful young and dishonest. He chooses for her to be old and ugly, a wise choice for the old woman decides to be young beautiful and
