her into a positive legend of the people. The following paper examines this woman, first discussing her birth and early life, then her life as a revolutionary prior to the
murder and then finally the paper examines the murder and her martyrdom. Charlotte Corday: Early Life Charlotte Corday was born in
1768 to a very aristocratic family (Buzzle, 2002). "Her forefathers, indeed, had been statesmen, civil rulers, and soldiers, and among them was numbered the famous poet Corneille, whom the French
rank with Shakespeare" (Orr, 2005). However situations over the years had put her family in a position of peasantry (Orr, 2005). Orr (2005) a fact which partly justifies the name
that some give her when they call her the Jeanne dArc of the Revolution" (Orr, 2005). However, her ancestors had been statesmen, soldiers, civil rulers and as such this political
involvement seemed to surely run through her blood (Orr, 2005). Although she was something of a peasant, she did not spend her early
years roaming the hills, tending sheep but was in charge of taking care of the sisters in the convent she lived in (Orr, 2005). It was in this convent that
she got her educations and "grew up reading Rousseau and Corneille. Some scholars believe that encountering these works at a tender age molded her into a hopeless idealist so isolated
