speak, change the course of the tides as they instill ideas, worries, thoughts, beliefs, and change action. At the same time minor characters can simply be there to demonstrate other
peoples lives go on or that life is not always dire or depressing. There are many reasons for minor characters, and as such many reasons for minor characters in the
work of Shakespeare. The following paper examines the significance and influence of Bianca in Othello, the Gadshill plot in Henry IV Part I, and Cinna in Julius Caesar. Bianca
in Othello Othello is a very powerful story wherein one man, Iago, controls the other characters in the play, pushing and pulling them wherever he desires all for his own
advancement. In this play Iago, perhaps jealous and angered by the arrival of Othello and his marriage to Desdemona and the loss of a hopeful advanced position, sets out to
destroy Othello and without the character of Bianca this may not have been possible. Bianca, though a very small character, is crucial to the entire plot. Bianca is the girlfriend
of Cassio. Cassio was given the position, by Othello, that Iago wanted and so Iago employs the usefulness of Cassio, pretending to be his friend. He alludes to the fact
that Cassio could perhaps have Desdemona if his cards are played right. Iago secretly plants Desdemonas handkerchief in Cassios room. When Bianca enters she essentially begins to berate Cassio for
not coming to her earlier, claiming she has been missing him as a lover. He then tells her, "Pardon me, Bianca: I have this while with leaden thoughts been pressd:
