stereotypical. He is someone who today would appear on Jerry Springer. His life had always been dysfunctional and all he ever wanted was to make something of himself. Yet, Loman
has limited intelligence or at least that seems to be the case; the point is arguable however. The story itself, as wonderfully told by Arthur Miller, is poignant. Willy Loman
finds himself in a role which elevates him above anything his father ever accomplished. This point is important as the story unfolds. The relationship between Willy and his own son
will matter in terms of what the author was trying to convey. As a typical modern man, Loman was unfaithful to his wife on occasion. And he also exaggerates his
business successes. He is the quintessential traveling salesman, or is he more representative of a schizophrenic caricature? It is difficult to tell. There is both an innocence and an evil
about him. Abner Snopes, in Barn Burning, has some of the same qualities as does Millers Willy Loman. Snopes is an arsonist, but Faulkner does at times reveal a soft
hearted man. Perhaps a difference between the two characters are how their families are treated. Snopes is rather cold and calculating where Loman does not treat his family well, but
there is an appearance of such. While Lomans life is all about lies and innuendo, Snopess emotions are simply lacking. He is just what he seems where in Lomans case,
the opposite is true. Lomans true personality is obscured. As a salesman, it is no wonder that Loman has the ability to fool people and tell compelling tales and
seemingly plausible cover stories. But for Snopes, he is simply as he appears. He does not have the skill that Loman does, but the two are similar underneath. How is
