Glick, who is the epitome of the American dream. He began as a copy boy in New York and climbed the proverbial ladder of success. To some, he might be
considered a hero. That is, at first glance, without getting into the persona of Sammy Glick, or looking at what he had done to others, one might believe that he
is an all American boy, or the quintessential New York or Hollywood executive. In reality, he does exemplify all of those traits. However, the saying that one should be kind
to those they meet on their way up, because they will meet the same people on the way down, does not apply. Sammy is ruthless. Sammy does step
on a lot of toes as he works his way up from a copy boy in New York to a screenwriter and then finally to a powerful Hollywood player. But
his success is not without consequence and the primary theme of this work is in fact the cost of success. At least Sammy does not get to where he accomplishes
a great deal until he does step on toes. He does not care who he hurts and this is present every step of the way on the road to the
top. It is not an uncommon theme in literature nor is it uncommon in the real world. The world of work is not easy, nor is it nice. Some
of the ideas come from narrator Al Manheim, an old colleague who is in awe of Sammys success. As Sammy goes after the gold, Al goes after Sammy. What makes
