story serve to represent some of the most evil desires in the race of man, and others serve as dramatic supports to the story that unfolds. As one critic notes,
"The gloomy tale of an Scottish generals murderous ascension to the throne, aided by supernatural prophecies and a scheming wife whose lust for power eclipses his own, has precious few
good things to say about the human race" (Weiner). With that in mind the following paper analyzes the characters of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, Macduff, and Banquo. The paper then analyzes
the theme as it involves evil and dramatization. Characterization Macbeth- In many ways Macbeth is the pawn of the story. He is a man who perhaps does not have
the strength of character to stand for himself in any particular manner. He is a very simple and likely a content man in the beginning. But, with the prophecy his
world, and his perspective of his world, changes. Suddenly he is thrust into a position where he is unprepared. "His mind is assailed by the stings of remorse, and full
of preternatural solicitings. His speeches and soliloquies are dark riddles on human life, baffling solution, and entangling him in their labyrinths" (Hazlitt). We see that his thought "is absent and
perplexed, sudden and desperate in act, from a distrust of his own resolution. His energy springs from the anxiety and agitation of his mind" although he blindly rushes "forward on
the objects of his ambition and revenge, or his recoiling from them, equally betrays the harassed state of his feelings" (Hazlitt). In essence, although he is greedy and clearly eager
to fulfill the prophecy he is confused and weak, easily being swayed by his wife and her determined and direct desires. Lady Macbeth- "Lady Macbeth, whose obdurate strength
