In addition to this there is the potential for performance appraisals to the motivation system. However, they can be meaningless in terms of motivation, assessment and waste resources where they fail, but where they succeed they have the potential for providing the organization of useful information as well as supporting personal development (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2007). There are a number of reasons to a performance assessment with either your fail. The first may be in the way that it is implemented. Overall, for a performance assessment system to be effective it needs to be some benefit to those who take part. If the results of the performance assessments are used, and seen to be used, in a productive manner is likely to be more commitment to the performance assessment process by both those performing assessments and those who are subject to the assessment (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2007). For example, if a performance assessment is linked into the training and development program, so that the division of employee needs can be assessed, and then met with a specific plan, both the managers and the employees are likely to see a positive outcome from the result of the assessment process, and as such will be committed to it. If the performance appraisal system is linked to the way in which remuneration assessed there is also likely to be an increased level of commitment to the process.
