of a young man who sets out to find himself, and challenge himself in the Alaskan wilderness. It is a true story of a young man who was found dead
in Alaska. The following paper offers a character analysis of Chris, focusing on the pros and cons of his pursuit. Character Analysis: Into the Wild In the first
chapter the reader sees that Chris is already in Alaska, and ready to head up into the Denali wilderness. According to a man who picked him up hitchhiking he was
clearly unprepared physically for he did not have a strong enough rifle of enough food. He tried to talk Chris out of his journey but "There was just no talking
the guy out of it" (Krakauer, 2007; 6). But, as one reads the book one learns that this was perhaps part of Chris intention as he wanted to really rough
it, really push himself and live off the land. This is clearly a positive and brave dream and as such is a pro in relationship to his character, but his
true lack of wisdom and knowledge of the area, which would kill him, is clearly a con. In the next chapter the author essentially lays down more information and
foundation for the story through an examination of the region itself, thus perhaps further adding to a con approach to the character and his lack of judgement. Chapter Three speaks
of Chris upbringing, his family, and his friends. It is a chapter that illustrates he had a strong family and friend foundation, but clearly something was amiss, as the author
also, throughout the book, indicates in his own rebellion against his father. This offers a pro in the sense that rebellion is good for seeking ones identity but a con
