decade in the UK there have been many changes that have resulted in changes, some of which have provided businesses with opportunities, others have resulted in challenges. Before looking at
business some of the socio-cultural changes maybe considered. In the beginning of the 21st country there was a time of change, it may be argued that
a pattern where there was increasing class mobility was still taking place, enhanced by a breakdown in class boundaries. Stuart Hall (1992), argued that class was becoming less important
due to weakening and class barriers breaking down. Looking at studies of class mobility it would be hard to argue otherwise, changing classes between generations may be seen as indicators
of a society that is based more on ability and skills rather than family background and inheritance; a meritocracy. Class mobility between the generation and within the generations can be
seen as caused by many different factors that are not indicative of the underlying identity. These include the social condition of the country such as the economic condition as well
as the international position, but there is also an interesting change following recession which started in 2008 with an increase in the UK north/south divide with an old division becoming
prominent once again, where economic hardship appears to be hitting the north of the country to a much greater extent, resulting in higher unemployment, higher poverty, since the beginning of
the recession the unemployed rate in the North has risen at three times the rate in the southeast of the country (Harris, 2010). It is also expected that as
the recovery takes place it is more leaky to be focused in the southwest where there is a greater concentration of available affluent markets with the recession in the north
