such as Japan. This paper considers how the role of married Japanese women has changed over the last 50 years. Topic and Methodology The question under consideration is,
How has the role of married Japanese women changed since 1950? The question should be of interest to Japanese of both sexes, because it impacts every phase of life,
in particular the workforce. The question is of interest to all Japanese, both men and women, because the problem is not going to go away. Japan is a
highly industrialized nation, and like all such, is dealing with a society in which the cost of living is soaring, making it a necessity that both partners work. At
present, despite having been in the workforce during and immediately after WWII, and again from the mid-1970s to the present, women are generally considered second-class citizens, paid lower salaries, and
considered relatively unimportant in the business world. If women are continually held back like this, not only will their families not live as well as they could, but the
entire society will suffer. Why limit the contributions of half the population because of the tradition of male dominance? Because of time constraints and physical limitations, I researched the
topic using the Internet, which means that I didnt use any books at all. I concentrated on trying to find journal articles, which are available through library databases.
