back deck, I noticed that the dogs were enjoying the fenced in yard and all the new sights, sounds and smells of our new home. The sky was
clear and the air was clean and crisp. It did not smell like the city where we had just moved from. I could see the grain elevators from
the back deck and even had a view of the high school where I would be enrolling for my Junior year. I couldnt imagine why my parents had decided
to pick this year to leave all the hustle and bustle of the city and drag our family to this little town of 1,000 inhabitants. I was taking a break
from moving in. And although, I loved my new room and understood how much the dogs were enjoying the back yard - we had to walk them all the
time on leashes in the city - I couldnt help but wonder what I was going to do for friends and for fun in such a small town. I
sat down on the steps and petted the dogs at my feet who were clamoring for attention. I was starting to panic. School was going to be starting
in just a week and I didnt know anyone - no teachers, no other kids, no one. My fear turned into resentment as I focused my panic on my parents.
How could they decide to move our family now? My younger brother and sister would be able to adapt to the change. After all, they were only
in elementary school. But I was in high school and had been a part of the popular crowd at my old school in the city. It they had just
