a company such as Kinko want to change their image they need to understand how image is created and maintained and how poor or undesirable images can be lost.
Where the image becomes negative there is the needs to change the image, sometimes this will require a name change to escape the
associations that have been created over time, as seen with the way Euro Disney changed names to Disneyland Paris (Kotler, 2003). The former name had the association with the bad
publicity surrounding debts and poor employees relations, buy changing the name there was a psychological break for the consumer. However, to change an image there is not always the need
to change the name as Continental Airlines in the US discovered when they needed to turn around their operations, the same may be seen with British Airways in the UK
(Kotler, 2003, Hooley et al, 2003). To change the image the marketers had to develop ways of communicating, on multiple levels, the idea of the new image, this
may be with words and images, the use fo more subtle messages in the advertising and the maximisation of public relations exercises. However, no matter what level of marketing takes
place, the message will only remain in place and become the new associations if the promises that are made are also seen in the product or experiences. If the company
does not deliver on its promises there is likely to be negative reviews and word out mouth is also a powerful tool, especially with the internet, which can almost destroy
