in this country has changed over time. The answer to that question is a resounding "yes". Numerous recent developments clearly demonstrate that due process has been adversely
impacted and this is an incredibly important fact given the importance due process has been levied in our countrys history. Although we have historically regarded due process as
a cornerstone in individual rights of American citizens, today it is regarded more as a dispensable accessory. Unfortunately, our rights as U.S. citizens are eroding right in front of
our faces and, just as unfortunately, far too few of us even recognize that fact. The history of due process and the protection it afforded American citizens can be traced
back to the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, an amendment which states in part that we shall not be deprived of our life, our liberty, or our property, without
due process of law. This concept was elaborated on more fully in the Fourteenth Amendment. Adopted just after the Civil War and three-quarters of a century after the
Fifth Amendment, the Fourteenth Amendment echoes in many ways the provision of the Fifth Amendment that kept states from depriving any person of his or her "property". Included in
the provisions of the Fourteenth Amendment is a requirement that all states provide equal protection of the laws. This Amendment specifies that states cannot deprive an individual of life,
liberty, or property, without due process of law. There is no questioning the fact that due process has had a definitive impact on the delineation and definition of the
